Hawks fall to Nazareth Academy

Bethlehem Catholic's softball season came to an end on Thursday afternoon in Lyon Station, as the Hawks fell to District 1 champ Nazareth Academy 2-1.

Becahi had plenty of chances in the contest but could only score once, which came in the top of the second to give them an early 1-0 advantage.

Joelle Morey started the rally with a hit and Ann Li Dietrich pinch ran for her. Dietrich would eventually come around to score on a close play at home as catcher Jean Markovic got the RBI.

But that would be it.

The Hawks made contact off Panda pitcher Emily Shellenberger, who registered just one strikeout, but the Nazareth Academy defense didn't commit an error and overall played very well.

The Pandas big inning came in the bottom of the third when a Tamara Jennings' two-out double brought home Madeline Miller and Taylor Lichtenhahn.

The Hawks threatened in the top of the seventh, but the defense of Panda right fielder Molly Scullion perhaps saved the game. After nine-hitter Marissa Merriman singled, Scullion made a shoestring catch off the bat of leadoff hitter Lauren Visconti. Scullion then raced into the right-center gap to snag a well-hit ball from shortstop Emily Brandstetter to end the game.
