Firefighters from Woodlawn, Fogelsville and Western Salisbury fire departments, along with an EMS unit from Cetronia Ambulance Corps, responded at 2:30 p.m. on May 28 to a working tractor trailer fire on I-78 East, just west of the Hamilton Boulevard interchange.
Initial reports from Lehigh County 911 radio indicated a tractor trailer was on the shoulder of the road with a brake fire on the trailer.
Western Salisbury Fire Chief Josh Wells reported seeing heavy smoke from the Hamilton Boulvevard on-ramp as he traveled west toward the fire.
Shortly after that call, Cetronia Ambulance personnel reported the fire had spread to the trailer.
When Wells arrived on the scene, the rear of the trailer was fully involved in flames.
Fire crews used several hose lines to extinguish the fire.
State police shut down all eastbound lanes until crews had the fire under control and the damaged trailer could be removed.
The driver of the tractor was not injured and was able to disconnect the tractor from the trailer to prevent any damage to the tractor.
Lehigh County radio reported the trailer was hauling juice drinks.
