LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Wanderers looking for improvement

It's early in the legion summer, but there's one thing that every coach knows he'll need from their team and it's quality pitching.

The Wanderers hope that can stay true for their season, as they sit at 1-1 through Monday's schedule.

Dwight Pulieri is back in the fold as manager of the club and looks to improve off last season's 11-10 mark.

"To be competitive night in and night out, no matter who we play," said Pulieri about the team goals. "With a 20 game schedule in five weeks, pitching depth as always is a major concern. We will use "Johnny Whole Staff" mentality throughout this season."

The Wanderers registered an 8-4 victory over Hellertown, but lost to Jeffs 2-0 this year and come equipped with a roster filled with Bethlehem talent.

Eddie Bonilla (2B/P, Freedom), Bryce Hudak (1B/P, Freedom), Ed Milisits (1B, Freedom), Dan Mitchell, (1B, Liberty), Anthony Trapani (3B/P, Bethlehem Catholic) and Sean Wrobel (OF/SS, Freedom) are some of the key players on the Wanderers this summer, as they head into another week of action, starting with Thursday's road tilt against the Birches, followed by a Friday night contest at home against Northampton.

Pulieri and company may need more time to see what his team is capable of this summer, but he knows that every night is a battle for the team to qualify for the playoffs.

Working off their strengths and improving in their important areas of play will be keys for them moving forward.

"These guys have great team chemistry," he said. "This team is a pleasure to coach and be around. Even though we have only played two games, we are a very strong defensive team. We just need to take advantage of the offensive opportunities that we are given with timely hitting."
