Pine Grove tops CHS

Senior captains Zac Edwards and Zach Stopay ended their varsity careers by getting on base three times each in their final game, but it wouldn't be enough as Catty fell to Pine Grove 10-2 last Wednesday in the District 11 playoffs.

Edwards was 1-for-1 with a walk and was hit by a pitch in his last at bat. Stopay went 2-for-3 and also got on on an error.

The Roughies were their own worst enemy as they committed seven errors in the game.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the third, Catty answered with a run in the bottom of the inning. Alex Parker walked and Stopay beat out an infield hit. Edwards walked to load the bases before junior catcher Randal Pacchioli hit into a fielder's choice to bring in one run and tie it 1-1.

Pine Grove exploded four five runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 6-1. Catty answered back with another run in the bottom of the fifth.

Stopay had another infield hit before Edwards followed with a hit up the middle. Pacchioli followed with a single down the line which scored Stopay to cut it to 6-2.

The Roughies ended their season with a 12-10 record.

Senior Carlos Perez was voted as a first-team, all-Colonial League outfielder and Edwards also made the first team as a second baseman for the second year in a row.
