On a quiet residential street in Coplay, strangers have been seen digging around in the bushes.

Despite how it may appear, this activity is no cause for concern. The strangers digging around in the bushes are just geocaching.

"Geocaching is a free real-world outdoor treasure hunt. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using a smartphone or GPS and can then share their experiences online," says the website geocaching.com.

The object of the hunt is a small, waterproof container which is hidden somewhere outdoors. Inside is a logbook in which the geocacher writes his or her code name – like an online geocaching ID – and the date found. The container is then placed back in the exact same place.

In this case, a geocache was placed outside a community building in Coplay. Because some hunters may still be looking for the container, The Press will not reveal it's location.

"This should be an easy cache for everyone," reads the clue on the geocaching.com website. "I live right down the road and walk my dog here all the time, so I can check on this cache all the time. There's even a playground for the kids. Lots of muggles walking and playing in the evenings, so please use stealth!"

Apparently not all the geocachers were stealthy enough to avoid causing concern with the neighbors. The owner of the building in question was not notified, nor were users of the building or nearby facilities.

A search on the geocaching.com website reveals this particular container is not the only geocache to be found in the area.

Putting "Coplay, PA" in the site search reveals at least a dozen clues to geocaches hidden along the Ironton Rail-Trail which passes through Whitehall, Coplay and North Whitehall.

"A 6 inch x 4 inch container will hold travel bugs and small trade items, not far off of the Ironton Rail-Trail. Minimal undergrowth," reads one of the clues for geocaches on the trail.

This particular geocache apparently contains not only a log but also some items for the finder to keep.

"I placed this cache on the rail trail so there would be one in that section with some goodies inside. The kid in me loves the trinkets and trackables," the clue states.

"This one stumped us for a few minutes," reads one of the comments below the clue. "Nice container! I love the creative ones!"

Naturally, geocaches are hidden all over the local area. Locations in Whitehall, Northampton and the surrounding area also show up on geocaching.com.
