SplashFest planned at Kreidersville Covered Bridge

The Bertsch-Hokendauqua-Catasauqua Watershed Association will sponsor a free day of watershed education and music for children and their families at Kreidersville Covered Bridge Park, 100 Covered Bridge Road in Allen Township. This free event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at the conclusion of the Kreidersville Covered Bridge Challenge (5K and 10K race).

While the race will take place rain or shine, the rain date for the SplashFest will take place at the park the following day.

This interactive family event will introduce participants and parents to the plants, animals and insects that inhabit the area.

Attendees will see water insects under a stereoscope and in their natural habitat, search for macroinvertebrates in the stream and learn about watershed mammals, insects and feathered critters.

SplashFesters will also learn about threats from invasive plant species and how streamside forests protect waterways from pollution.

They will construct sun catchers using natural materials with local artist, Debbie Miller.

BHCWA members will provide all instruction and materials for watershed activities, education and arts and crafts.

The Lehigh Valley Charter School for the Arts Environmental Club will help with programming.

Also at the event, members of the Hokendauqua Trout Unlimited Chapter will be demonstrating and teaching fly casting.

Participants should wear shoes and clothing that can get wet and dirty (consider bringing a towel and a dry change of clothes), sunscreen and hats.

Guests are invited to bring a picnic lunch, lawn chairs and blankets to sit on.

No registration is required.
