North Catasauqua residents will begin leaving their recyclable items at the curb with the rest of their refuse beginning June 3. A three-year trash hauling contract was awarded to J.P. Mascaro and Sons following a May 13 hearing regarding Mascaro's appeal of a borough council decision to accept a bid for a 5-year contract from McAuliffe Hauling & Recycling. Judge Edward Smith recommended, and the borough agreed to, a compromise in the dispute in which the borough accepts Mascaro's Jan. 22 bid of $582,248 for a 3-year contract. Mascaro will distribute recycling tubs to residents before June 3.
