Breaking: Zephs win LVC title

Whitehall's baseball team captured their first-ever LVC title with a 5-2 victory over Parkland at Hackett Park on Wednesday night.

For the second-straight day, the Zephs got a strong pitching performance, this time from Elliot Mortimer. Mortimer allowed nine hits over seven innings while fanning six and not allowing a walk. It came a day after Jeff Wloczewski blanked Emmaus 2-0 in the semifinals. (See story in this week's edition of the Whitehall-Coplay Press)

Matt Bonshak, Zack Delp and Jake Meyers all had two hits for Whitehall. One of Meyers' was a double and he added an RBI. Tyler Bridgwood doubled and had an RBI and Mortimer and Delp also drove in runs.

The Trojans actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a two-run double from Tyler Graeff. But, Mortimer wouldn't allow anymore runs and the Zephs chipped away. Whitehall would take a 3-2 lead with a three-run third inning, then added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
