Three incumbents Robert Cohen, Mark Hanichak and Barry Long, and David Hein, seeking his first term in office, were on the May 21 ballot for four-year terms on the Parkland School Board.

All cross-filed on the Democratic and Republican tickets.

According to Lehigh County Voter Registration numbers, Cohen received an unofficial 1,680 Republican votes and 837 votes from Democrats.

Long garnered an unofficial 1,763 votes on the Republican side of the ballot and 799 votes on the Democratic side.

Hein brought in 1,670 unofficial Republican votes and 770 Democrat votes.

Cohen, serving as board vice president, will return for a fifth term on the board.

A graduate of the Pratt Institute, Cohen has worked as a software consultant.

Hanichak joined the school board in 2007 when he was selected to complete the unexpired term of an individual who resigned.

He was elected to a four-year term in 2009.

Hanichak earned his Bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration from Muhlenberg College and his Master's degree in business administration from Lehigh University.

Long, a 1972 Parkland High School graduate, was first elected in 2009.

He earned certification in plumbing from the now Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Long started the family business, Long's Water Company, Orefield.

He sold the company and pursued his interest in theology.

Hein is manager of sales, analytics and reporting for Independence Blue Cross.

Hein said during the campaign he enjoys hearing various board and staff presentations about the district, legislation affecting schools, and state and federal funding issues at meetings.

"I became more curious about the district and how we get funded. The next logical step was to put my hat in the ring for the school board," Hein said.

Hein graduated from West Scranton High School and received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Bloomsburg University.
