Post Everlasting ceremony

On May 11, the Emmaus American Legion Charles Henry Schaffer Post 191 hosted a Post Everlasting memorial ceremony. The 24 posts in the American Legion 14th District of Pennsylvania hold the ceremony each year.

The district encompasses posts in Lehigh and Berks counties. The site of the ceremony was the Emmaus Veterans of Foreign War Post 7088.

The memorial ceremony is held once a year to honor deceased Legion members. Each post commander reads aloud the names of the deceased members. After the post commander reads the name of the deceased member, a bell is rung.

After the post commander finishes reading the names from his post, the district adjutant lights a candle to honor the members from his legion post. The chaplin of the district then burns a list of the members' names from that post.

In 2012, District 14 honored 265 members. Of that number 15 members were from the Emmaus Legion Post 191. Those honored include: John Godusky, Gerald Grimm, Charles Huber, William Johnson, Andrew Kadas, Arthur Knappenberger, Harry Knecht,Vincent Metzel, Donald Misera, Robert Mutchler, Donald Muth, Jack Queen, Charles Reinert, Robert Tettemer and Edwin Traupman.

All of the listed veterans were eligible for a military funeral.

Post 191 invites all veterans who were honorably discharged and are interested in joining the Legion, to contact the Legion at 610-967-2582 or 610-967-1973.
