Voters go to the polls Tuesday for primary election
Area residents will go to the polls Tuesday, May 21, to vote in a number of races, selecting the candidates they wish to see on their party's ballot in November. See page 5 for information on the county elections. Local election candidates are listed here.
Catasauqua
Mayor
Voters are asked to vote for one candidate for mayor, for a four-year term. The candidates, both Republicans, are incumbent Barbara A. Schlegel and challenger Sean McHugh.
Borough council
Residents will vote for not more than three candidates, to serve four-year terms. The candidates are Republican Mica D. Smith and Democrats Deb Mellish, Christine Weaver, Vince Smith and Alfred Regits.
Tax collector
Republican James R. Delbertis is the only candidate for this office, a four-year term.
Hanover Township
Township council
Six candidates are on the ballot, seeking three seats on the council. All are four-year terms. The candidates are Republican Dean J. Hausman, Randall C. Atkinson, Frank M. Dreisbach, Joseph R. Hembecker and H. Curtis Wegfahrt and Democrat Bruce E. Paulus.
Auditor
There are no candidates for a two-year or four-year term as auditor.
North Catasauqua
Mayor
Incumbent Democrat William J. Molchany Jr. is running unopposed for another four-year term.
Borough council
There are two Republicans and four Democrats on the ballot for four open four-year term seats on the council. On the ballot are two challengers, Republicans Peter Paone and William Nothstein and four incumbents, Republicans Shawn P. McGinley, William J. McGinley, Cherie Gebhardt and John Joseph Yanek.
Tax collector
Donna M. Shifko, a Democrat, is running unopposed.
Second Ward Judge of Elections
Democrat Margaret Druckenmiller is running unopposed.
Second Ward inspector of elections
Republican Shirley Edwards is running unopposed.
Catasauqua Area School District
School director
Residents may vote for not more than four candidates for a four-year term.
On the primary ballot are three candidates, Donald J. Panto II, Christine Nace and Penny A. Hahn, who have cross-filed on both Republican and Democratic ballots, as well as Democrat Sally J. Reiss.
In addition, Duane Deitrich and Christine Nace have cross-filed in a race for a two-year term.
