LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Article By: JOE ZEMBA Special to the Press

Catty High tamed the Tigers of Northwestern 8-1 last week and it was the first time Catty qualified for the Colonial League playoffs. CHS won a Colonial League title in the 80s before the playoff format went into effect.

Head Coach Thomas said, "I am extremely proud of the girls. The kids were in a rut in the middle of the season. I'm excited for everyone on the team."

Lexi Ayache of Catasauqua High School was cruising with a one-hit shutout through six innings at Patriots Park last Thursday night. It was a senior night game for both Catty and Northwestern. Ayache got nicked for three hits and one run in the seventh inning but by that time things were in control as the Rough Riders coasted into a Tuesday night Colonial League semifinal game.

Ayache delivered three strikeouts to the Lady Tigers including back-to-back K's in the top of the fifth inning.

Catty pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of three Tiger errors to hand Lydia Danner the loss. Danner went four-and-a-third as Ellen Smith finished things up.

Junior catcher Janae Matos had a perfect night at the plate going 3-for-3 with three runs and a double. Behind the dish she threw down to shortstop Danielle Lilly to nab Danner attempting to steal. Matos started the scoring in the second inning as Catty's cleanup hitter singled. Senior Jordan Dardas advanced Matos to second on a beautiful sacrifice bunt. Matos got to third on a wild pitch and Ayache drove in Matos with a solid hit.

Hannah Edwards came to bat with one out in the third inning and had a bunt single, stole second and third, and came home on a wild pitch. Senior Erika Lebron walked and she and Edwards put together a double steal. Matos knocked in Lebron with a single.

In the fourth inning Shea O'Brien stroke a single and got into scoring position by swiping second. First Baseman Olivia Schlofer's hit slapped O'Brien in.

The Rough Riders pushed across three runs in the fifth frame as Paige Kogelman (single) and Matos started up the merry-go-round with a double. Dardas walked and O'Brien had a fielder's choice as Kogelman was nabbed at the plate. Ayache hit a comebacker to Smith which she bobbled. Amarys Moten had a fielder's choice and Olivia Schlofer followed up with a single to right field.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth frame, Matos walked and stole second before Dardas drove her in with a smoking double to end the Roughies scoring.

Hannah Edwards was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Lilly had a great night with the leather at short for CHS.

Northwestern senior Blaise Barron legged out an infield hit and Morgan Cleary had a bunt single. Senior Stephanie Papp hit into a fielder's choice and senior shortstop Felecia Heckman had a swinging bunt RBI scoring Cleary.
