LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK Shannon Philips

Q: What grade are you in?

A: I am in 12th grade.

Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subject would have to be history. I find the past to be interesting, especially the social and cultural aspects of a society.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: I have been on the honor roll every semester and have received a few small awards for some artwork that I've done in the past.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: I am head of costumes and makeup for our school's productions. This year will be my seventh show. I am also vice president of Spanish Club. Other groups include National Honor Society, Drama Department and Kid to Kid.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: After high school I plan on majoring in elementary education, grades four through eight, with a focus in social studies. I also hope to minor in Spanish.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A: My biggest challenge right now is finding the time to balance my social and academic life. Sometimes I'd much rather be out with my friends, but I know that right now focusing more on school will help me in the future.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I hope to be remembered as a strong and encouraging person, who can be there for just about anyone.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: My parents are Barb and Dave, and I have two younger siblings, my sister, Rachel and my brother, Jacob. I also have four cats and a dog.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I definitely look up to my parents the most. I trust their judgment and am always willing to accept their advice. Though we may not always get along, I know that no matter what I do they will always be there for me.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: I would encourage others to make a difference and take a stand for what they believe in. Don't always go with the crowd, stay true to your own values and beliefs. Every person has their own unique path of life and that's what makes us so special. Never give up hope, even if at times life seems hopeless. Treat yourself and others with respect, too.
