May 15

Emmaus Historical Society meets 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. The program is "Native Americans of Eastern Pennsylvania and the Jasper Quarries of Vera Cruz" presented by Bob Benner. Prior to the program there will be an election for board members whose terms expire.

Look for hardscaping to appear in the Butterfly Garden on the community center campus by the Lower Macungie Garden Club. This special area will provide a habitat for butterflies and hummingbirds. The garden is envisioned as a place for education, observation and reflection. Through the efforts of the club, they hope to inspire residents to become more involved in making the community a greener place. Join them as a volunteer or donor. May 18

Open house at Upper Milford Western District Fire Co # 1, Chestnut Street, Old Zionsville, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free refreshments, games for the children, crafts, face painting. CPR Class will be held 10:30 a.m.; upon completion, a certificate will be given. New York Life representatives will photograph and fingerprint children. Come see the fire trucks and area ambulances.

Sacred Heart Senior Living, 4851 Saucon Creek Road, Center Valley, will host a program about dementia. "Why is My Dad Doing That?!" will teach about the causes of new and unusual behaviors including sundowning, wandering, hoarding, hallucinations, delusions, repetition, aggression and sleep issues.

The Emmaus-Upper Milford Environmental Advisory Council and Wildlands Conservancy will present the third of a four-part series of presentations about South Mountain 7 p.m. in the Emmaus High School community room. Guests can enter at the main office entrance, near the flag pole, on Macungie Avenue, Emmaus. "Using and Protecting Our Mountain: Acting Now While Looking to the Future" will highlight our role as stewards of resources. Topics will include preservation of water quality, managing impacts of deer and invasive species and management of public and private lands. The presenters will focus on areas in Emmaus and Upper Milford including the South Mountain Preserve and the Seed Farm, and the role of private landowners.

GFWC PA Woman's Club of Emmaus will host their 71st annual spring banquet at Brookside Country Club 11 a.m. The Parkland Strolling Strings will perform 1 p.m. For reservations, call Ginny at 610-797-4905.

Upper Milford Historical Society meets 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Municipal Building, Old Zionsville. Attendees should bring something to share, discuss, inquire about, show, etc. for Discovery Night. All are welcome; refreshments will be provided. The Lower Milford Township Fire Company will hold a carnival 6 to 10:30 p.m. through June 15. All proceeds benefit the fire company. Special entertainment 7 p.m. each night with fireworks June 14.
