ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL

At its meeting May 8, Alburtis Borough Council decided to consult with Donnie Derr of the borough's maintenance department before making a final decision on solving the problem of hockey pucks flying out of the hockey court.

Hockey player Walter Ruff suggested extending the netting an additional 24 inches higher; including three poles and netting, the extension could cost between $2,000 to $2,200. Instead of going straight up, Council member John Aleszczyk thought going across would be better.

Council member Kathleen Raines presented a sketch of the Walbert's hockey court sign she will show to the church council at Longswamp U.C.C. May 20.

The bank took over the property at 128 W. Second St., put a new roof on the back of the house but has done nothing with the garage. Council passed a motion to inform the bank of a deadline of May 10 to take the garage down or the borough will take it down.

Following a brief discussion, council decided not to take over the bird sanctuary, as it will require a survey. Moreover, if someone decides to build near the sanctuary in the future, it would be too complicated and expensive for the borough.

Council is interested in taking over the Lockridge Church only as it has a clean deed.

The maintenance department is in need of another hand blower and estimate it would cost $300, said Secretary Sharon Trexler. Council advised Trexler to ask the department for additional price quotes.

Council instructed Trexler to request bids for the work to be done on Church Street to be advertised with a deadline of May 29 or 30.

Council briefly discussed the borough Centennial.

After speaking with the fire company, Oels said it was suggested June 13 be declared Robert F. Nader Day. Everyone agreed and Mayor Kathleen Palmer planned to include a proclamation declaring this in her speech at the opening ceremony of the Centennial.
