Hilda E. Steigerwalt, 88, of Slatington, died April 30, 2013, in Easton Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Gordon W.W. Steigerwalt.

Born Nov. 20, 1924, in Mahoning Township, Carbon County, she was the daughter of the late Ira E. and Agnes E. (Steigerwalt) Heilman.

She was a sewing machine operator for various textile mills in the Lehigh Valley for 40 years before retiring in 1988.

Active in the life of her church and community, she was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Slatington, where she was a former Sunday School teacher for 10 years, a past president of Shoemaker Haydt American Legion Post 314, Ladies Auxiliary, Lehighton, a former Girl Scout Leader with the Greater Valley Girl Scout Council for 45 years, a past noble grand of Lady Lillie Best Rebekah Lodge 222, Schnecksville, and a past deputy president of District 4, Rebekah Lodge.

Her survivors include grandchildren Georgine L. Steigerwalt, Stephen J. Steigerwalt and significant other, Lisa, Travis P. Solt and his wife, Jennifer, and Nicholas A. Solt; great-grandchildren Desiree, Nicholas and Kerianna.

She was predeceased by daughters Barbara L. Solt and Roberta M. Strawhacker.
