SALISBURY TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Salisbury Township School District curriculum and technology committee met for their last off-site visit of the school year at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute April 29. Prior to the start of the meeting, the directors took a tour of the facility and enjoyed desserts made and served by students and staff.

The committee debated two options presented by McClure Co. for Phase II of the Guaranteed Energy Project. The project entails the heating and cooling system at the administration building. Option 1 would be to provide electric reheat coils for each office and Option 2 would be to provide hot water reheat coils and install a new boiler. Business Administrator Robert Bruchak pursued financing and Municipal Capital had the lowest rate with 2.3 percent for 10 years and 2.9 percent for 15 years. Bruchak recommended the board consider the 15 year financing plan to remain budget neutral.

The board is financing these upgrades expecting the energy savings to cover the loan payments. Over the last three years, Director of Facilities Bill Brackett said approximately $60,000 has been spent in parts and labor to repair the equipment at the administration building.

Superintendent Michael Roth presented the committee with the results of a full-day kindergarten survey given to parents of students enrolled this year, parents of students enrolled in the 2013-2014 school year and to parents of students who attend kindergarten in an establishment other than the Salisbury Township School District. The results of the survey did not show an overwhelming need for full-day kindergarten. Roth said he will continue to track the requests for full-day kindergarten and update the board periodically.

Roth and administrators provided a social media update, sharing how they are pushing information out through various channels to communicate with students, parents and the community. This allows information sharing, models effective communication for students and provides a digital footprint for the school district for students to emulate.

The district is using school messenger to relay district emergencies and announcements, the community portal to share attendance, discipline, grades, announcements and report cards, SalisburySD.US on Facebook and Twitter and http:// TL2014.org for technology updates.
