The first Earth Day observance of the Salisbury Township Environmental Advisory Council will be held 10 a.m. to noon May 18 in Lindberg Park.
The event's objective is to "engage Salisbury Township community members to be good stewards of their environment," according to Kreg D. Ulery, who shared a copy of the event planning information with a reporter for Salisbury Press.
The event is free and open to the public.
Here is the May 18 schedule:
10 a.m.: Composting - Linda Sheftel, master gardener, Penn State Cooperative Extension
10:30 a.m.: Lawn Maintenance - Jane Benning, EAC member and master gardener, Penn State Cooperative Extension and Clint Walker, who will speak on soil testing
11 a.m.: Bird Town - Brian Belfast, Audubon Pennsylvania Bird Town
11:30 a.m.: Waste Management - Liz Barto, and/or Patty Barthel, Waste Management, Inc. plus "Cycler" the robot.
Each presentation is expected to be 20 minutes with five to 10 minutes of questions allocated.
The EAC next meets 7 p.m. May 15. To plan for Earth Day, the meeting is in Lindberg Park and not in the Municipal Building meeting room.
At the April 17 EAC meeting, Commissioner Joanne Ackerman, the township board representative to the EAC, questioned why there are no recycling bins in township parks.
"We talk about recycling. And we have all these bottles thrown around the parks," Ackerman said.
