BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
Troop 431, which meets at Asbury United Methodist Church in Allentown, welcomed five new Eagle Scouts at a ceremony April 29.
Joshua G. Light, son of Greg and Kathryn Light, of Macungie, is a senior at Emmaus High School. He joined Scouting as a Tiger Cub. Light worked with the Allentown Parks Department and Pennsylvania Wildlands Conservancy on a restoration of the habitat of Trout Creek Park to earn his Eagle award. His project included planning, organizing, and overseeing construction of 33 birdhouses and three large bat boxes for the park.
Michael A. Smerker, of Wescosville, also is a senior at Emmaus High School. Smerker's Eagle project included building two benches and adding a new rope ladder for the preschool playground at Concordia Lutheran Church. Smerker also lanscaped and mulched the area behind the playground. Michael is the son of Robert and Susan Smerker.
Seth C. Workman, son of Mark and Susan Workman, of Macungie, joined Scouts when he was five years old. Workman constructed games for troops overseas as his Eagle Scout project. Workman, now a senior at Emmaus High School, built eighteen sets of two games.
Justin T. McTish, son of David and Carolyn McTish, of Macungie, managed a baseball team for children with a cognitive or physical disability to earn his Eagle Scout award He is a past winner of the quarterly Scout Leader's Recognition award given by Troop 431. McTish is a senior at Emmaus High School.
Andrew R. Kaiser, son of Richard and Catherine Kaiser, of Allentown, now a junior at West Chester University, earned his Eagle Scout award for constructing a woodshed for storing and curing wood at Camp Serranova in Macungie. Kaiser was awarded the "Scout of the Year" for Troop 431 in 2011.
All of the Eagle Scout winners featured have hiked more than 100 miles and camped out more than 70 nights.
