Residents visit new building

Hanover Township opened the doors to its new municipal building on April 17 and provided tours to residents of the new facility.

"We wanted to have something just for residents so they could come and see the new building," said council Chairman Frank Dreisbach.

An open house was held late last year for regional officials and other invited guests, but residents did not attend that function.

Borough Manager Sandra Pudliner provided light refreshments and snacks to residents who took the tour.

"It is a great looking building and they made good use of the site," said Diane Szabo.

Her father Joseph was head of council when the last township office was built.

"This is a nice replacement," said Joseph Szabo. "We could not have done this in the 70s."

"I watched the whole process," commented John Yawney.

Yawney owns Dog House, a dog grooming and training business next to the township offices.

"I would talk to the guys building it a lot," he said. "They had to fill 26 sinkholes. This is a nice addition to the township."

The new building, which has been in use since September 2012, is on the site of the old offices.

Construction planning required tight coordination to allow the work to move forward and keep township offices functioning.

One of the last open issues is paving the new parking area.

The remaining tasks are expected to be completed as soon as the weather stabilizes.
