George Taylor House to hold opening ceremonies Sunday

The George Taylor House will hold its opening day ceremony 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 5. The George Taylor Monument will be dedicated in celebration of its 200th anniversary.

The Catasauqua American Legion Post 215 will present an honor guard salute and the Sheckler Elementary School band will perform at 2 p.m. Guided tours of the George Taylor House are set for 2-4 p.m. Food and beverage vendors will be plentiful.

Traditional Mayday Maypole dances and crafts for children are set for 3 p.m. Hickory Grove will hold a plant sale and the Biery House on Race Street will be open 1-4 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs.

The George Taylor House is a national historic landmark located at 35 S. Front St. It was built in 1768 by George Taylor, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

The South Catasauqua annual neighborhood yard sale is scheduled for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. May 17-18 at locations south of Race Street up to and including Circle Drive. The sale will be held both days, rain or shine.

The Catasauqua American Legion Post 215 will be hosting a breakfast with a bike blessing 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 4. The menu will be the same as during the regular monthly breakfasts.

The proceeds will benefit Sgt. Michael Kace, a wounded warrior.

Kace joined the National Guard right out of high school. He was seriously wounded in a rocket battle in Afghanistan in 2008. His left arm was amputated six inches from the shoulder and he suffered a severed colon and multiple face fractures.

Kace was on his third deployment having previously served in Bosnia and Iraq.

The Sons of the American Legion are responsible for the blessing.

The Historic Catasauqua Preservation Association is soliciting proposals for the research, design, fabrication and installation of four interpretive display panels for the George Taylor House in Catasauqua.

If interested, please visit www.hcpa.org for details. This project is funded by a grant from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Borough of Catasauqua.

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, Fourth and Pine streets, is hosting a taco bar 4-7 p.m. Saturday, May 4.

The event will allow patrons to build their own taco including walking tacos. Dessert and beverages will also be a available.

The Catasauqua Public Library, located on Bridge Street, will hold a book sale and small flea market 1-4 p.m. Friday, May 3 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 4.

On Saturday, the Catasauqua Garden Club will have healthy plants on display for sale.
