Seniors Melissa Fuhrman and Zac Edwards have been selected as Catasauqua High School's Colonial League Academic All-Stars for the 2012-13 school year. Both students and their parents were honored at a breakfast at the Green Pond Country Club last Friday, April 26.
Fuhrman is ranked third out of 113 with a grade point average of 97.87. She is a four-year letter winner in soccer, a two-year letter winner in cross country and has earned one letter in track and field.
Fuhrman was Catasauqua High School's girls soccer scholar athlete nominee this past year. She is president of the National Honor Society and secretary of student council. Fuhrman has earned distinguished honor roll every marking period and was named a student of the semester in both 2012 and 2013. She also is a volunteer at Life in Christ Church in Bethlehem. Melissa plans on attending Lebanon Valley College to enroll in their six-year doctorate of physical therapy program, and hopes to continue her soccer career.
Edwards is ranked first out of 113 with a grade point average of 101.00. He is a three-year letter winner in cross country, basketball and baseball. Edwards was named to the Colonial League baseball all-league team as both a junior (first team) and as a sophomore (honorable mention).
Edwards was also named to the 2012 Morning Call All-Area Baseball Team as a second team infielder. Edwards is a member of the National Honor Society, student council activities coordinator, Varsity "C" Club Sargent of Arms and the class of 2013 historian. Edwards was named the 2013 Lehigh Valley Sports Hall of Fame Male Scholar Athlete and was a 2012 Cohen & Feeley Best of the Best scholarship award recipient.
Edwards plans on attending Lebanon Valley College on an academic scholarship to major in accounting and to continue his baseball career.
