The Allentown Public Library was celebrating National Library Week with a raffle of four prize baskets during the month of April. The winners will be selected today. All proceeds from the raffle will benefit the library.

May 2

The Delaware-Lehigh Amateur Radio Club will hold its monthly meeting 7:30 p.m. in the Bethlehem Township Community Center, 2900 Farmersville Road, Bethlehem. Allentown AARP Chapter #5415 will meet noon, at St. Timothy's Church, 140 So. Ott St., Allentown. A representative from the United Way will explain the Project 2-1-1, which is a program for seniors needing help. Trained call specialists will provide information on a broad range of services, including basic needs, health care, youth programs, counseling, food banks, housing, aging services and much more. The 2-1-1 is a free service for Lehigh Valley residents (Lehigh and Northampton counties) and is available 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A business meeting will follow. The Allentown Public Library, 1210 Hamilton St., Allentown, will host a meet and chat with teen author Claire J. Griffin 2 to 3 p.m.

Breakfast buffet, all you can eat at Upper Milford Western District Fire Co., Routes 100 and 29, Old Zionsville. Serving 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is a charge.

May 7

The Emmaus Garden Club will meet 12:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2nd and Cherokee Streets, Emmaus. The program, "Uncommon Fruit Trees and Their Care," will be presented by Bassem Samaan, owner of Trees of Joy Nursery in Bethlehem.

The Crazy Quilters Quilt Guild will meet 7 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 3461 Cedar Crest Blvd., Emmaus. The program will be presented by fiber and batik artist Suzanne Egan-Hill, who will show in a step-by-step format how batik images are created. Visitors are welcome, however, there is a charge. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is holding a free stroke risk screening, 9 a.m. to noon at the organization's health and technology center, 850 South Fifth Street, Allentown. The free screening will include a medical history review; measurement of height, weight, blood pressure and heart rate; blood sugar and cholesterol screening; nutritional education; and personal stroke risk assessment. Third annual charity bike ride to benefit St. Luke's Hospice at The Bob Rodale Cycling and Fitness Park, Trexlertown. Participants can choose to ride 10 or 35 miles; both rides begin 9 a.m. Register at ww.active.com and registration closes 9 p.m. May 8.

Pancake and sausage breakfast, bake sale, lunch and open house at Zion Lehigh Lutheran Church, 8269 Spring Creek Road, Alburtis. Breakfast will be served 7:30 until 9:30 a.m.; lunch 11 a.m.; church open through 6 p.m. There is a cost. For additional information, call 610 395-1215. Lehigh County TRIAD invites the public to recognize Parkinson Disease month. The informational meeting will be held at EMERITUS of Allentown, 1545 Greenleaf St., Allentown. Candidates Night sponsored by Concerned East Penn Taxpayers Association 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Fire Company No. 1 at the corner of 6th and Broad streets, Emmaus. Moderators are Giovanni Landis and John Zettlemoyer. Races being covered are East Penn School Board directors, Lehigh County Commissioners and executives, mayors, municipal councils, magistrates and tax collectors. Over 30 candidates will appear.
