William McGinley seeks additional term in N. Catty

William J. McGinley is running for re-election to the North Catasauqua Borough Council.

"My parents instilled in me a strong sense of community pride and service and I have passed this on to my own children." McGinley says.

He has been active in North Catasauqua politics for more than 30 years, serving as council member, then mayor and currently again as a councilman.

"Throughout the years, I have seen a town that had nothing, prosper to our current state of a community that is envied by many," he says. "Many towns can say they did the same, but few towns were able to do it like North Catasauqua and gain prosperity without impacting taxes. It takes ingenuity and planning to accomplish this."

Successful strategies for management of borough tax money have included borrowing money when rates are low and acquiring new equipment instead of wasting money on repairs and employee down time.

"Although we came a long way, there is always the need to progress forward," he says. "Our road projects that were done years ago will need updating, our equipment replacement schedules need to be maintained, and the renovations we did to buildings need to be maintained and updated."

McGinley says there are two ways to do this.

"We can raise taxes or use the ingenuity that got us here in the first place. The lease purchase programs and low fixed-rate loans the borough secured are the way to go," he says. "My experience as a worker for Penn DOT helps me steer my committee in the right direction and avoid wasteful spending. Not only am I a candidate who has experience in the local political positions, but I also have a hands-on knowledge of the day-to-day maintenance that is needed for our roads, buildings, and public spaces."
