A Whitehall man died April 18 following a two-vehicle crash along Route 145, North Whitehall
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim says Ronald J. Toribio, 24, of Whitehall, died of multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the accident, which occurred around 10:22 p.m. in front of 5416 Route 145.
Grim said Toribio, of 1951 Schadt Ave, was pronounced dead 1:36 a.m. April 19 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
"I ruled the manner of death an accident," Grim said.
According to State Police Troop M Bethlehem, Toribio was southbound in a 1997 Volkswagen Golf, just north of Neffs Laurys Road, when he apparently lost control of the vehicle while attempting a right curve in the road.
The car crossed the center double-yellow line and its left front hit the left front of a 2002 Chrysler Sebring driven by Tonya Marie Lee, 22, of Danielsville, who was northbound on Route 145, police say.
The Sebring crashed into the embankment just off the roadway to the east, police say.
The Volkswagen traveled back into the southbound lane, then went back across the northbound lane before striking the embankment, just off the roadway to the east.
Toribio was extricated from the car and transported by Northampton Regional EMS to LVH.
Both Lee and her passenger Brittany Peters, 21, of Danielsville, who police say were wearing seat belts, sustained minor injuries and were transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps and Northwestern EMS to the hospital.
Both vehicles sustained disabling front-end damage and multiple airbag deployment.
