District News

April 25: Career Awareness Night, Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Route 309, Schnecksville, 7-9 p.m. The event welcomes all eight to 12th grade students and their parents from Lehigh and Berks County school districts to explore educational and career pathways. The event promotes awareness of career and technical, collegiate, and professional opportunities in our area to help ensure that students and their families have appropriate information to allow students to develop an individualized career and/or educational path. This event is sponsored by state Rep. Gary Day, R-187th.

April 26: Earth Day Celebration at Schnecksville Elementary, 9 a.m.-noon. The theme is "Wild About Our National Parks and Forests, Explore, Learn, Protect." Kindergarten, first and second will focus on our National Forests and will have an assembly with Smokey the Bear. Grades three, four and five are celebrating our National Parks. Different stations highlighting the different parks will be set up around the school and a park ranger will engage students in an activity.

April 26: Fogelsville Elementary Spike-tacular in high school g ym, 7 p.m. Parents vs. teachers volleyball game includes raffles, food and games for the whole family. Proceeds will be donated to Fogelsville Elementary School, Parkland Education Foundation, and the Autism Society of the Lehigh Valley. PTO will provide snacks and various sponsors provided the prizes.

April 27: Indoor Color Guard and Percussion Competition, high school gym, noon.

Achievements:

Tracy Smith, assistant to the superintendent for operations, made a presentation at the National School Board Association's 73rd annual conference in San Diego, Calif., when she took part in a workshop called "Advancing Technology in Challenging Economic Times," to share Parkland's efforts and achievements cutting costs through technology implementation.

Congratulations to Parkland LCTI students who earned a second place at the state level SkillsUSA competition: Zachary Bennicoff, building maintenance custodial; Gretchen Helfrich, dental assisting and Joseph Span, heavy equipement operations.
