Coplay artist paints caboose for IRT

A Coplay artist has donated a painting to the Ironton Rail-Trail Commission.

Rocky Petzuk, a neighbor of Mayor Joseph Bundra, took a picture of the recently restored caboose before the lettering was completed.

He called Bundra, requesting a photo of the historic rail car with the lettering finished.

Bundra suggested Petzuk paint a picture of the caboose but Petzuk said he didn't have time.

Bundra knew that meant his neighbor was already working on the painting.

Bundra showed off the painting, framed in old barn wood, at a recent borough council meeting.

"This is what he did for me, for us, for the IRT group," Bundra said.

Petzuk witnessed what the IRT commissioners call "the big move" in July 2012, when a crane was used to move the caboose from the Whitehall Parkway to Stiles.

"He was very im-pressed with how the committee works," Bundra said. "And, it is the work of three municipalities that make that happen. It's Whitehall, North Whitehall and Coplay."

The volunteers running the IRT have been together for 13 years.

"Other groups are copying our style because it works so well."
