WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Hard to believe that I am writing about fall athletic physicals for the 2013-2014 school year which will be held June 8 in the Salisbury Middle School health room. Paperwork will be available as of June 1. There is a cost for the physical; checks can be made to STSD. The schedule includes 8 a.m. for soccer players, 8:30 a.m. for football players and all other sports following 9 a.m. Girls field hockey players should report 9:45 a.m. followed by girls soccer 10 a.m., cheerleading 10:15 a.m. and all other girls sports 10:30 a.m.

PSSA science testing is occurring this week for fourth and eighth grades. Harry S Truman and Western Elementary schools will have a 1 p.m. early dismissal April 26. Western will host a PTA Barnes and Noble Family Fun Night at the Promenade 5:30 to 8 p.m. April 26.

Last week, the Salisbury High School boys swimming and diving team were honored by the school board for earning the school's first state title. On April 24, the swim team has been invited, by State Rep. Justin Simmons, R-131st, to visit the State Capitol. They will depart the school 7 a.m. and return by 3 p.m. While there, the team will tour the capitol and be announced on the "floor."

On April 28, the Swim Booster Club will host the swim team end of season banquet.

Salisbury Middle School has fourth quarter mid-marking May 2. Western will have their spring concert 7 to 8 p.m. May 6.

HST will host their art show and curriculum and technology night 7 to 8 p.m. May 7.

SMS will hold their spring concert 7 to 9 p.m. May 8. Make sure you visit the various schools and enjoy an enchanted evening of music from our talented student musicians.

May 8 is also mid-marking period for Salisbury High School students.

SHS will have their prom May 11 at Lehigh University's Iacocca Hall with the theme "Forever Young." For all those attending and driving, be safe. It is an evening to spend with lifetime friends and classmates and make forever memories. Capture the moments but please drive safely.

Keystone testing will start May 13 at SHS and continue throughout the week.

May 14 will be the final school concert, this one at SHS 7 to 9 p.m. It is a spring choral and instrumental concert. To our senior musicians, thank you for your many years of talent, commitment and entertaining us.

May 1 is the date curent seniors need to "commit" and send their deposit into their respective colleges. Has your student chosen their school? I love hearing what schools our seniors plan to choose as their future home.

The Race for Adam Foundation has planned a Dine and Donate April 24 and May 22 at PJ Whelihan's Pub at 3395 High Point Blvd., Bethlehem. Mention the SteelHawks and 15 percent of your total bill will be donated to Race for Adam. Don't forget to register for the eighth annual 5K Run/ Walk for a Cure; this year will be my son, Eric's final time to participate. My son, Sam, who was in middle school when Adam was diagnosed, will be taking finals May 4. Eric and I are looking forward to spending that morning, May 4, with friends supporting Adam Recke. Looking ahead, Salisbury schools will be closed May 24 for a Professional Development Day. All schools will be closed Memorial Day, May 27.

Trident Swim and Tennis Club, on Flexer Avenue, will open to members for the summer season May 25.
