ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL

At their April 10 meeting, Alburtis Borough Council was making final preparations for the borough's three days of celebrating their Centennial beginning May 10 through 12. Having the mummers in the parade would cost the borough $1,250.

"This is tight on the budget," Executive Secretary Sharon Trexler said. Council decided to contact the Allentown Hobo Band to see what they charge.

During the Centennial Celebration days, Alburtis Fire Police will be on duty for traffic control and the police department will be available to assist anyone needing their help.

In another matter, Police Chief Palmer is having an issue ordering ammunition because of the new government legislations. If he waits much longer to order he might have to wait up to a year to order ammunition again. The laws are requiring a 5-case minimum when ordering ammunition and it would last the borough until the end of 2014. Although there is enough money in the budget to cover the cost and the officers need the ammunition to practice for when they are tested to qualify, Councilperson David Lehr suggested asking Macungie if they wanted to split the order.

Councilperson Kathleen Raines reported she contacted Longswamp U.C.C. two times for a donation toward a sign to be put at the hockey court in remembrance of Althea and Jeannette Walbert and was told they will get back to her April 15 for their decision.

Council was advised the storm drain at 202 Lockridge Lane was clogged and it was determined the clog was at the homeowner's side so opening the storm drain is the homeowner's responsibility. Councilperson David Lehr offered to give them a hand. Trexler will check with the fire company to ask if they could flush it out with their hose to open it up.

Homeowner's at 104 Front St. stuck a snake in their lateral and couldn't get it out so they cut it off. Maintenance checked and it was determined it is on their side so they are responsible for the removal of the snake. Executive Secretary Sharon Trexler will write a letter to the homeowners advising them it is their responsibility.

Donnie Derr, with the maintenance department, asked council for permission to have the driveway at Borough Hall sealed and council agreed unanimously.

Trexler said former Councilmember Kyle Bower stopped by Borough Hall to see Trexler and apologized for causing embarrassment to the Borough.
