North Whitehall Township
North Whitehall resident Doug Kern will kick off his Miles for Miracles project with a breakfast fundraiser at Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on April 14.
Five years ago, Kern rode a handcycle in the New York City marathon and combined the personal challenge with a fundraiser for the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley.
The Miracle League offers children with special needs the opportunity to play baseball.
After the success of the first marathon fundraiser, the former Parkland High School football player vowed to ride again in five years for another Miracle League benefit.
He has assembled a team of runners from Union UCC and elsewhere to assist in the effort.
Kern has chosen to enter the Palm Beach marathon on Dec. 8.
The church partners with him to offer encouragement and a home base for fundraising opportunities.
Breakfast menu consists of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, and beverages.
Tickets are available at the church office.
