Girls light up scoreboard in win over Patriots

At the beginning of the season, girls lacrosse coach John Seitzinger wanted his team to be looked at as a perennial Lehigh Valley Conference and District 11 power.

After five conference games, his Parkland team looks very much the favorite in the league.

The Trojans (6-2, 5-0 LVC) came out firing on all cylinders and remained unbeaten in the LVC with a 23-4 win over Freedom last Monday afternoon at Freedom High School.

Seitzinger has stressed balance in his offensive attack and that was on full display against the Pates. Eight different players scored goals, led by junior Kelsey Carlon's seven. Goalkeeper Molly Diamondstein, who was never really troubled in the game, made five saves.

"We worked really well as a team today," said Carlon. "We found each other well. If someone was doubled, they found the open player. We placed our shots really well, and had good passing and catching today."

The goals came early and often for the Trojans. Carlon tallied five of her seven in the first half. Megan Hower and Sophie Castillo contributed two goals each and Mackenzie Galli, Jess Leiby, Lauren Kelly and Madison Pope all added goals of their own to run the score to 14-1 at halftime.

It was more of the same over the final 25 minutes, as Parkland outshot the Patriots 33-13 in the contest.

Sarah Lennick got her name on the score sheet with a shot from about 10 yards out. Castillo netted three in the period, Carlon notched two and Pope, Galli and Leiby each contributed one in the second half.

The Trojans have won their five league games by a 13 and a half goal margin. Their only two losses came at the hands of Exeter and Governor Mifflin.

"We use these kind of games to practice our offense, work through our plays and see what we can do better to execute when the games matter most," said Carlon.

Parkland looks to ride this scoring spree into their showdown with Emmaus on Friday.
