Boys lacrosse trounces Becahi
A little over a week ago, the Parkland boys lacrosse team fell to Emmaus, 8-3, to open up LVC play.
Since then, though, the Trojans have won four straight and have looked much like a top force in the conference. The Trojans (5-1, 3-1 LVC) responded with impressive conference wins over Nazareth (5-4) and Central Catholic (5-4), and most recently, a 21-0 romp over Bethlehem Catholic on Tuesday afternoon that put Parkland among the LVC's top teams.
"That Emmaus game really meant a lot to us because for our seniors we never beat them," said Ethan Howell. "We went right to Nazareth and we beat them. We just got our energy up [and] we just want to win."
In a game that was virtually decided after the first period in which the Trojans raced out to an 8-0 lead, Dylan Klusaritz netted five goals in the first eight minutes to set the tone for Parkland early.
"We just wanted to work our offense to get prepared for the hard stretch later in the season," said Klusaritz.
Klusaritz totaled a team-high six goals in the win.
Led by Howell - who had a career day for the Trojans - Parkland opened up the second half much like the first. They continued to score in bunches and doubled their 10-0 halftime lead to over 20 when all was said and done. The Trojans scored five in the third period and six in the fourth.
Howell scored all three of his goals after halftime, and added a team-high six assists for the Trojans.
"I was trying to just be a leader out there, and not be one of those ball hogs," said Howell. "I like to pass it and I just help my teammates get better."
Zach Getchius added five goals, all coming in the second half for the Trojans and Brett Kudlak tallied two goals and three assists. In all, nine different Trojans scored goals in the victory.
While the Trojan offense controlled much of the time of possession, their defense allowed the Hawks to generate just one shot on goal.
"I think we were a little weak on our middies and it just helped us get better with moving the ball around," said Howell. "I think we're going to improve on this because [we're] just working the ball more."
The Trojans will host Liberty on Thursday in search of their fifth straight victory since that defeat to Emmaus. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Orefield Middle School.
