UPPER MILFORD TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS Outdoor burning ban imposed in township

A ban on outdoor burning is in effect in the township as of April 5. Upper Milford supervisors announced the ban at their April 4 meeting.

Township Manager Daniel DeLong said fire chiefs Ira Shade, of Western District Fire Co. # 1, and Joe Sherman, of Vera Cruz Fire Company, agreed a ban is necessary, since the rain originally predicted for last Friday was no longer expected.

In other business at last week's brief meeting, supervisors authorized the sale of several items of surplus or obsolete equipment which had been advertised for sale on the Municibid auction system. DeLong said the bids received appeared to be fair prices.

The equipment included such items as a mower, several tires, mirrors, a plow and some recycling receptacles. The total amount the township will receive is more than $4,300. A total of 195 bids had been received.

Supervisors tabled action on approving a taller cell tower to be installed by state police near the township building after DeLong said he had not heard back from either the fire chiefs or the company that operates the Medevac helicopter regarding whether the tower will need a light.

Supervisor George DeVault said the FAA doesn't require a tower of the height being considered to be lighted. Supervisor Chairman Daniel Mohr said he is concerned that if they require a light on the tower, planes flying over it might be misled into thinking they are flying higher than they actually are.

Supervisors also approved a time extension until June 30 for Seedway's land development plan for a 40,000 square foot warehouse.

Also, after an executive session to discuss real estate, the board approved selling a right of way for $1 to a property owner at 4035 Main Road West. The property owner will then connect to the Vera Cruz sewer project. The property owner and the Lehigh County Authority have already agreed to the proposal, DeLong said.
