Ruth K. Piper, 101, of Macungie, died March 31, 2013, at The Village at Willow Lane Senior Living, Macungie. She was the wife of the late John F. Piper Sr. Born in Rose Point, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John G. and Anna (Boggs) Kelland.
She was a member of Bala Cynwyd United Methodist Church.
She was a graduate of Slippery Rock University, Class of 1931 and had taught school for Sunnyside School, a one room schoolhouse in Lawrence County.
She was an avid golfer, having been a longtime member of the Merion Golf Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, painting and was active in the community theatre for many years.
She is survived by children, The Rev. Dr. John F. Jr. and his wife Margaret of Williamsport, Carol P. and her husband Dr. Bruce Basch of Macungie; grandchildren, John F. III and his wife Lydia, Keland Ruth and her husband Joe Alogna, Michael D. Basch and his wife Jackie, Jeffrey K. Basch, David F. Basch, and Rebecca and her husband Jim Christman; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Kylie, Frank, John, Torin, Nathan, Megan, Jennifer, Christopher, Kevin, Zachary, Thalia, Samantha, Dylan, Tyler, Emma and Eli.
Memorial donations may be made to either the Hilltop Preparatory School, 737 S. Ithan Ave., Rosemont, Pa., 19010 or to the John F. Piper Sr. & Ruth K. Piper Scholarship, Advancement Office, Lycoming College, 700 College Place, Williamsport, 17701.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, Bethany United Methodist Church, 1208 Brookside Road, Wescosville. Arrangements were made by the Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, Allentown.
