The popular 2001 movie, Legally Blonde, which featured Resse Witherspoon as a sorority girl who struggles to win back her ex-boyfriend by entering Harvard Law School, is a funny romp that is being presented this week from Wednesday through Saturday by students of the Emmaus High School Theater Department.
Being presented as "Legally Blonde – the Musical," the production centers on a Southern California college student sorority president, Elle Woods, who is majoring in fashion merchandising and is hopelessly in love with her boyfriend, Warner Huntington III, who will attend Harvard Law School the following year.
Elle excitedly expects Warner to ask her to marry him, but he breaks up with her instead, claiming he has to be with some "more serious."
After days holed up in her room feeling sorry for herself, Elle's two best friends take her to get her nails done. While waiting, Elle reads an article about how Warner's older brother met his fiancé in law school.
Elle, desperate to win Warner back, takes the law school admission test, applies to Harvard and is accepted.
A series of hilarious, though improbable twists and turns follow as Elle works to overcome the disapproval of her classmates because of her good looks and seemingly naïve behavior.
Can Elle overcome Warner's engagement to another student, prove herself as a competent law student and triumph in the end?
The best way to find out is to buy a ticket and attend one of the four performances, 7 p.m. April 10, 11 and 12 and 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets can be purchased in the EHS main office or at the door.
