Parkland Aquatic Club hosts swim clinic

Swimmers, family members and staff of the Parkland Aquatic Club recently were treated to a visit by Olympic swimmers Chloe Sutton, Tyler McGill and Adam Brown.

Office Administrator and Meet Director Carol Facchiano pulled together the event.

The Fitter and Faster Swim Tour brought the three Olympians to the high school natatorium.

Sutton, McGill and Brown presented drills and demonstrations to attendees through two stations.

Head Coach Ryan Woodruff and Head Age Group Coach Marty Tomes were on deck working with the tour members and aquatic club swimmers. The goal of the event was to teach and inspire the participants.

"I can't believe I saw an Olympic swimmer swim," Josh Berstler said.

His father said this is the age an event such as this can really make an impression on his son.

Parkland Aquatic Club members come from all over the Lehigh Valley. The high school pool is their home base.

Pools at KidsPeace, Bethlehem, and Whitehall High School are also used. Programs start as "Learn to Swim" lessons at age 5 and individuals may progress to competitive levels.

The club is a registered USA swim club any competitive level individual may qualify to compete in USA swim meets.

Part of McGill's clinic focused on goals. He said goals belong to the swimmer, who has to work hard to reach them, and having fun is part of reaching goals.

Sutton and Brown shared stroke techniques on deck and in the pool and gave suggestions to some individuals as they swam along with the swimmers.

A highlight of the day was when the Olympians raced with the kids.

Smiles abounded and special memories were made.
