To the Editor:
In response to a letter to the editor by Jane Aylor Fretz in the March 14 opinion page, "Standing up to the NRA, I felt I had to respond.
She is wrong about the NRA being a front group for gun manufacturers; they have a membership of hundreds of thousands of decent freedom loving Americans! Next "Guns don't kill people, people kill people!"
"If guns kill people, than pencils misspell words."
Besides there is no such thing as an "assault weapon." Every object used to attack someone is an assault weapon. This includes: a gun, knife, bat, rock, pen, fork, stick, hands, etc.
Be careful what you wish for! If you get rid of the Second Amendment, we will most likely lose the rest of the "Bill of Rights" including freedom of the press, freedom of speech and the right to assemble, etc.
If you read a little bit of history you will find that Nazi Germany, China and Russia, murdered millions of their citizens after they had been disarmed. An armed person is a citizen, an unarmed person is a subject!
Gun control is not about guns, it is only about control of law abiding citizens. The only thing that will stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun. The right to bear arms is our individual right protected by the Constitution of Pa. and U.S.A.
Maybe we should look at violent films, TV programs and video games that desensitizes people, drugs both legal and illegal, mental health and behavior problems. Also taking God out of the public square.
