Joseph Thomas Kemmer Sr.

J. Thomas "Tom" Kemmer, 76, of Macungie, died March 27, 2013 in Cedarbrook Nursing Home. He was the husband of the former Rosemary Markowski, of Baltimore, Md. Born in Garrett County, Md., he was the son of the late Joseph N. and Katherine L. Kemmer.

As a young man he marched and performed with several drum and bugle corps, including the Yankee Rebels of Baltimore. While attending the University of Baltimore, he played lacrosse and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Kappa fraternity and earned his degree in 1958.

After moving to the Lehigh Valley, he worked as an insurance agent and operated his own insurance agency from 1965 to 2008.

He was an active member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Trexlertown, a past president of the Fountain Hill Exchange Club, and a former coach in the East Penn Youth Association.

He is survived by his wife; son, LTC Joe and his wife Sarah, currently of Stuttgart, Germany; daughter, Cynthia and her husband Wayne Wirtz, of Dallas, Texas, and Valerie and her husband Brett Schantz, of Harleysville; sister, Anna Mae Koblinsky, of Dundalk, Md.; grandchildren, Mary Frances, Lorelei, Claire, Michael and Tyler.

Contributions may be made to St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 6667 Lower Macungie Road, Trexlertown, 18087 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 617 Main St., Hellertown, 18055.

Services are private at the convenience of the family. The Schantz Funeral Home P.C., Emmaus is in charge of arrangements.
