Edward W. Smith Jr., 78, of Emmaus, died March 30, 2013, in ManorCare Health Services, Allentown. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Burnham) Smith. The couple celebrated 53 years of marriage last August 22. Born in Lakeview, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Edward W. Sr. and Grace J. (Amodeo) Smith.
He was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Emmaus, where he served as an usher and was a charter member of the St. Ann's Council, Knights of Columbus, Emmaus.
He was a maintenance mechanic for Tyler Pipe Industries, Macungie for 24 years until his retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife; children, Catherine M. and her husband Karl Kichline, of Allentown, Edward J. and his wife Trina, of New Tripoli, Grace M. and her husband Michael Sebastian, of Emmaus, and Patricia A. and her husband Philip Schiebel, of Orefield; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to the church, 415 S. 6th St., Emmaus, 18049 or to the Emmaus Ambulance, 100 N. 6th St., Emmaus, 18049.
Services will be held 10:15 a.m. Thursday Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m., St. Ann's Catholic Church, Emmaus. A viewing will be held 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
