New coach takes over boys tennis program

Egor Ivanov found a lot of success on the court last spring. He won the Lehigh Valley Conference No. 2 singles title and District 11 championships in doubles, adding a second place finish in the district singles tournament.

This year, under a new head coach, Ivanov will look to take it a step further with his singles play.

Michael Hingston takes over for Julian Taibi, who guided the Trojans to both LVC and district team titles last year.

"We have a talented group of players," Hingston said. "Egor Ivanov is a solid No. 1 singles player. Our expectation is to challenge once again for the LVC and district championships.

"Our success will be determined in large part by how well our less experienced players handle the pressure that comes with playing varsity tennis."

Ivanov and graduated Richie Lichtenwalner were a big part of the success in individual play and they paired up to stormed through doubles play in districts.

Along with Lichtenwalner, who played No. 1 singles last year, the Trojans will need to replace No. 3 singles player, John Wylie, who also graduated.

These three played a big part in the Trojans winning the team championships at districts, defeating Freedom in the final by a dominant 4-1 score.

Senior Roshan Joshi and sophomore Pete Harrison bring back some valuable varsity experience from the remaining group. They will be competing for the two open slots at singles.

Some other returning players eyeing a spot at doubles include seniors Marcus Spiegel, Mike Adams, James Ko and Donovan Snyder, and juniors Luke Kim and Nishad Gothoskar.

Hingston welcomes in some new players to the varsity level in sophomore Caleb Wade and freshman Nick Kshatri, Nate Lyman, Mitchell Knafo and Alex Wu.

Hingston is new to running the Parkland tennis program, and even with some key losses from last year's successful team, he still has some pieces to work around, and with a regular season to blossom for the younger players, these Trojans may find themselves in a similar position in the postseason as they did a year ago.
