Construction work on Route 145 (MacArthur Road) is expected to pick up, weather permitting, within the week.

Winter snow and ice have not stymied construction. For most of the winter season, workers were on the job in the Lehigh Street area, which connects to Route 145.

"The construction is on schedule," Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. reported.

He said with weather cooperating, the two-year construction cycle should be completed in October, much to the delight of area motorists.

The PennDOT project on Route 145 begins near Eberhart Road, runs north on MacArthur Road to Center Street. The township said motor vehicle accidents have occurred in and near the construction zone. Four of them were major, according to Hozza.

Drivers are reminded of a state law requiring them to turn on their vehicle lights when driving in a construction zone.

The construction zone on MacArthur is posted as having a 35 m.p.h. speed limit.

Through it all, officials commented, there has been little or no gridlock.

A PennDOT mandate requires the contractor to keep lanes open to vehicular traffic and discontinue work during late afternoon hours.
