Northampton Community College held a commencement ceremony Jan. 26 for over 900 students who completed associates degrees, specialized diplomas and certificates during the past six months. The following students from the area received degrees.

Student named to dean's list

Zachary Homlish of Whitehall was recently named to the dean's list at Norwich College for the fall 2012 semester.

Students named to dean's list

Elisa Angione and Ethan Deitrich of Catasauqua were recently named to the dean's list with distinction at Grove City College for the fall 2012 semester.

Angione, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Corrado Angione of Catasauqua, is a senior majoring in biology. She is a 2009 graduate of Northampton Area High School.

Deitrich is a sophomore majoring in biblical and religious studies. A 2011 graduate of Catasauqua High School, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Deitrich of Catasauqua.

Students eligible for the dean's list must have a GPA of 3.40 to 3.59; for the dean's list with distinction a GPA of 3.6 to 3.84; and for the dean's list with high distinction a GPA of 3.85 to 4.00.

SUNY NEW PALTZ

Costenbader on dean's list

Alana Costenbader of Whitehall has been named to the dean's list at the State University of New York at New Paltz for the fall 2012 semester. Costenbader is majoring communication studies.

Dean's list designation is reserved for students who excel academically and earn at least a 3.3 GPA in a semester with a full-time course load.

Trout named to dean's list

Tara Trout of Bath has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2012 semester at Widener University School of Law, Delaware campus..

Students named to the dean's list must earn a GPA in the top 20 percent of their class and division for the semester.

MUHLENBERG COLLEGE

Schwartz named to dean's list

Chad Schwartz of Whitehall was recently named to the dean's list for the fall 2012 semester.

Schwartz, a graduate of Whitehall High School and a member of the class of 2016, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin O. Schwartz.

Students named to the dean's list must earn a minimum of a 3.5 GPA.

SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY

Students named to dean's list

Kara Eichelberger, Elizabeth Krall and Michael Wagner, all of Whitehall, have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2012 semester at Susquehanna University.

Eichelberger, who is a senior biology major and a 2009 graduate of Whitehall High School, is the daughter of Paul and Kristine Eichelberger.

Krall, who is a junior majoring in music education, is a 2010 graduate of Whitehall High School and the daughter of Douglas and Deborah Krall.

Michael Wagner, who is a senior music and theatre performance major and a 2009 graduate of Whitehall High School, is the son of Lawrence and Susan Wagner.

The dean's list recognizes students who achieve a grade-point average of 3.4 GPA or higher out of a possible 4.0 for the semester. To qualify, students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours.

MISERICORDIA UNIVERSITY

Greene is athlete of the month

Matt Greene of Hokendauqua has been named the Wendy's Misericordia University Male Athlete of the Month for January.

A member of the college's basketball team, Greene averaged 13.2 points and 4.4 assists per game in nine games while shooting nearly 40 percent from three-point range.

He had 19 points in a win at FDU-Florham and added 17 points and eight assists at Wilkes while connecting for five three-pointers in both contests.

The Wendy's Misericordia University Athlete of the Month program is in its 14th year and is sponsored by Quality Served Fast (QSF), the local Wendy's franchise organization.

PENN STATE UNIVERSITY

Fry graduates

Erica E. Fry graduated Dec. 22, 2012 from Penn State University with a bachelor of science degree in biobehavioral health and a minor in health policy and administration.

Fry, a 2009 graduate of Northampton Area High School, is the daughter of John and Donna Fry of East Allen Township.

She has begun a career with Geisinger Health Plan.

Resident named to dean's list

Lucas Sobchack of Whitehall has been named to the Penn State University Park dean's list for the fall 2012 semester.

Sobchack, a history major, is a graduate of Whitehall High School. He is the son of Lois and Larry Sobchack.

UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCES

Students named to dean's list

Angela Krutsick of Coplay and Kristy George, Yvonne Labram and Kimmarie Huynh, all of Whitehall, have been named to the dean's list for the fall 2012 semester at the University of Sciences.

George is a master of occupational therapy student and Krutsick, Labram and Huynh are doctor of pharmacy students.

Selection is based on completing and passing all assigned courses with no grade below a C and attaining an academic average of at least a 3.4 GPA for courses taken.

LAFAYETTE

COLLEGE

Residents named to dean's list

Mary Brand and Lauren Cesanek of Whitehall have been named to the Lafayette College dean's list for the fall 2012 semester.

Both Brand and Cesanek are graduates of Whitehall High School.

Dean's list distinction requires at least a 3.60 semester GPA out of a possible 4.0.

RIDER UNIVERSITY

Residents named to dean's list

Ashley Hunter and Elizabeth Urban of Northampton have been named to the Rider University dean's list for the fall 2012 semester.

Hunter is a senior majoring in elementary education and Urban is a freshman biology major.

NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY

Locals named to dean's list

Eileen Ferry and Anna Martin of Coplay have been named to the Northeastern University dean's list for the 2012 fall semester.

Ferry is majoring in health science and Martin is majoring in international business.

To achieve dean's list distinction, students must carry a full program of at least four courses, have a quality point average of 3.5 or greater out of a possible 4.0 and carry no single grade lower than a C- during the course of their college career.
