On March 12, the LVCHS choir and art program traveled to Lancaster to participate in a fine arts competition.

Student Justin Grim won first place in the category "nature and observation" against more than 100 other students, and earned a perfect score.

All individual and group performers were rated using a scale of good, excellent or superior. Students who scored in the superior category include Allison Aversa, Merari DeLaCruz, Jin Lee and Bobby VanDuzer. Jefferson Beltran, Jacob Stith and Michael Sun also competed and scored excellent.

Also participating in the ACSI fine arts competition was the LVCHS choir, the small vocal ensemble and a few select soloists.

The choir performed two songs and scored an excellent. The vocal ensemble competed with an a cappella piece and also scored an excellent. Soloists Livia Gehman and Brianna Westover competed in the classical vocalist category. Westover scored an excellent and Gehman a good. Rachel Prusak and Abby Parnell competed in the contemporary category and will be competing again next year.

On Monday, scientist Dr. Jonathan Sarfati, from Creation Ministries International in Georgia, spoke in chapel and presented an evening session on the solid scientific evidence for a biblical view of creation.

The LVCHS sports teams are also practicing and preparing for their first games and meets.

Spring sports include boys baseball and coed track and field. We also have a girls club soccer team.

The first baseball game was away at Coventry and the first track meet was the Pirate Invitational at Palisades on Saturday.

Other items on the school calendar include:

· On March 22 and 25, students took the online National Spanish exam to see how well we have learned the language. The following two days, March 26 and 27, are half-days, during which ninth- and 12-grade students will take the TerraNova achievement tests.

· Spring parent-teacher conferences were March 26, and our annual Easter Chapel program is March 27.

· LVCHS will not hold classes March 28 through April 1.

· A special speaker will be coming from the Life Training Institute in Florida April 4 to discuss a biblical prolife position.

· The public is invited to our annual Clear the Clutter Garage Sale in our gym Saturday, April 6. That is also a campus preview day for those interested in attending LVCHS.

· Our drama team will present "Annie" April 19 and 20. Tickets are on sale now.

With the warmer months to come, LVCHS is seeking more ways to help in the community. Currently we have seniors going to a homeless shelter and soup kitchen once a month. Students are always looking for service projects. If you know of a need, we would be willing to help.
