LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Student profile: Mollie Rachael Krawitz, Moravian Academy

Grade: 12

Family members: JoLana Krawitz, mother; Steven Krawitz, father; Edwin and Barbara Krawitz, grandparents

Favorite subject: I love studying Chinese. The characters and sounds are so beautiful, and the culture's long history fascinates me. I also enjoyed taking AP U.S. History last year. I had a terrific teacher who made history come to life and made me fall in love with America.

Activities: Co-editor of the school's yearbook; jazz band and pit orchestra (trombone); student representative to the Sustainability Council; Health and Wellness Club

Next steps: I plan on attending college and making the most of my opportunities there. I think I'd like to study Chinese and computer science, though I'm also interested in American history and astronomy.

Career goals: Ultimately, I can see myself becoming a teacher. This has been a dream of mine for years; I've been so inspired by all the great teachers I've had at Moravian.

Heroes: My real-life hero has to be my grandfather, Edwin. He's the most charismatic, witty and loving person I know. My fictional hero is CJ Cregg, the press secretary on "The West Wing." She's a strong, intelligent and good-spirited woman' I aspire to be as courageous as she is!

Hobbies: Knitting, hiking anywhere and everywhere; reading

Current job(s): Working for the IT executive at Moravian, including various tasks from maintaining and updating computers, to reorganizing the phone system, to rewiring offices

Volunteer/community work: I work various basket bingos for the West End (Monroe County) Rotary Club (of which my mom is a board member). Also, Sunday night bingo with the seniors at Pleasant Valley Manor.

Likes: Cats and kittens, anything relating to autumn (pumpkins, colorful leaves, bonfires), and trying exotic kinds of tea

Dislikes: Raw tomatoes, intolerance, and finding vegan food in a predominantly meat-loving world

Greatest accomplishment (so far): Last spring I completed an independent study (akin to a junior thesis) on tea cultures around the world. I spent 40 hours, wrote a 40-page paper and gave a 20-iminute presentation to the school community. I had a terrific time researching, and an even better time sharing the interesting things I learned.

Advice for peers: There are three things you should never discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin.
