Laura Bechtel, 101, formerly of Neffs, died March 19, 2013, in Phoebe Richland Health Care, Richlandtown, Bucks County, where she resided.

She was the wife of the late Frederick L. Bechtel.

Born July 15, 1911, in Lakeland, Fla., and raised in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Alfred P. and Laura J. (Crone) Schaadt.

After graduating from Allentown High School with the Class of 1928, she was a secretary at the former Bonney Forge and Tool Co., Allentown for 12 years.

After her children were grown, she worked nine years as a bookkeeper for the former Ritter Berger Advertising Co., Allentown, before retiring.

She was the oldest member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, where she belonged to Helping Hands and served eight years as treasurer.

She served as a Den Mother, 4-H Club Leader, and Girl Scout Leader.

In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed membership in the Audubon Society and the Parkland Garden Club.

Her survivors include a son, John D. and his wife, Terese, of Dublin; daughter Marjorie B. McElroy Burmeister and her husband, Edwin Burmeister, of Durham, N.C.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. March 23, at Union UCC, 5550 Route 873, Neffs, with the Rev. Thomas N. Thomas officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery.
