Beil recognized for 50 years
Keith Beil has seen his share of fires and other emergencies in his five decades as an active member of Northampton Fire Department's fire police unit.
He was honored March 2 for his 50 years of service.
At an annual banquet program held at the Allen Township Fire Department Social Hall, fire department President Tom Kohler and fire Chief Robert Solderich presented Beil with a plaque. Its centerpiece is a full-size ceremonial fireman's ax. The 50-year award was presented to Beil by his granddaughter.
Mayor Thomas Reenock presented Beil with a borough citation and keys to the community as he noted Beil's commendable service to the borough and its residents.
Cong. Charlie Dent, R-15th, and State Rep. Julie Harhart, R-183rd, presented Beil with citations from their legislative bodies congratulating him for his dedication and service, which began in September 1962.
Ed Pany, borough councilman and curator of the Atlas Cement Memorial Museum, delivered the principal address. He wrote an ode to Beil's volunteerism and life, from his boyhood on a farm to his military service to his work as a member of the fire police.
Solderich mentioned the firefighters' outstanding safety record battling blazes and the fire department's efforts to ensure the safety of its personnel.
Solderich said the department responded to more than 300 calls over the last 12 months.
In addition to Beil, Bob Baer and John Pedersen were honored with pins recognizing their years of service to the fire department.
Many other fire departments also participated in the program, including those from the townships of Allen, East Allen, Lehigh and Whitehall.
The Northampton Borough delegation included borough Manager Gene Zarayko, Assistant to the Manager Leroy Brobst, council President John Yurish and Councilmen Anthony Losonzski Sr. and Keith Piescienski.
