Baseball team must replace seven starters
Head Coach - Len Smith (31st season)
Assistant Coaches - Duran Porrino, Josh Zimmerman, David Dorney
District 11 Class - AAA
Last Year's Record - 13-7 overall, 9-7 league
Key Losses - Payton Bachman, Tyler Bartholomew, Mitchell Snyder, Ty Cunningham, Austin Kelly, Talon Williams, Matt Maher
Key Returnees - Rich Perry (Sr., P/1B/OF), Collin Breidinger (Jr., C), Nick Rodriguez (So., OF/P), Alex Smith (Sr., P/OF)
Others To Watch - Boston Furjanic (Sr., SS), Jake Najarian (Jr., OF/P), Austin Yanek (Jr., OF), Taylor Breininger (So., 3B/OF), Brandon Eden (So., P/1B), Josh Williamson (So., 3B/P), Kevin Shuey (So., C/OF), Brady Mengel (Fr., 2B), Jake Augustus (Fr., SS/3B)
Strengths - The Tigers return three starters. Perry was second on the team in innings pitched last season and played first base when not on the mound. Breidinger started at catcher and Rodriguez earned a spot in right field as a freshman. Smith went 2-0 in 15 1/3 innings, while Perry put up a 3.50 ERA in his 40 innings on the mound. The large group of newcomers has some athletic players that just need to adjust to the varsity level.
Weaknesses - The Tigers graduated seven starters, including the heart of their bating order and two of their top pitchers in Snyder and Bartholomew. They shift from a veteran team that was led by several three-year varsity starters to a young team with just three seniors and three juniors.
Quotable - "We have a lot of question marks. We lose a lot of our offense. We do have some speed; hopefully we can utilize that as we go along. We're going to have to get quality pitching. Pitching's going to have to keep us in games early in the season until we figure out what we have. I like what I've seen up to this point in preseason. There's ability here," Head coach Len Smith.
