Hawk Mountain Sanctuary holds its annual Spring Equinox Celebration, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. March 23 in and around the Visitor Center.
The annual event is held on the Saturday closest to the spring equinox to herald the arrival of the spring season. Trail fees apply for non-members.
The day begins with "Raptors Up Close!," 11 a.m., followed a guided nature walk at 12:30 p.m. for all age skill levels. Those interested in the walk should sign up upon arrival, as participation is limited, and a trail fee applies.
A volunteer naturalist will be at the bird feeder windows to point out and identify birds and small mammals. There will be a self-guided "Signs of Spring" scavenger hunt.
From noon - 2 p.m. children can create their own bird's nest and a clothespin dragonfly.
The day concludes with a second live raptor program at 2 p.m.
Complimentary hot chocolate and coffee will be offered.
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, 1700 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton, is three miles south of New Ringgold along Route 895, about seven miles north of the I-78-Route 61 intersection. Take Hawk Mountain Road to the Visitor Center parking lot at the top of the mountain.
