Robert Denby McKenney owned Stines Corner Country Store
Robert Denby McKenney, 91, husband, father, soldier and friend from Stines Corner, died March 8, 2013, in Phoebe Home, Allentown.
He was the husband of Georgia K. (Cicero) McKenney of New Tripoli and the late Aileen (Dolan) McKenney.
Born in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of the late James S. and Zelecia (Denby) McKenney.
He moved to Germantown, at an early age.
Hard times and the Depression led to service in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Later, he joined the U.S. Army, with which he was a radar team leader at Opana Radar Station, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on Dec. 7, 1941.
He retired as a colonel in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
When the war ended, he began a family in Doylestown, and began what would be a 40-year career with Philadelphia Power and Light Company, Warminster.
As the family outgrew their home, they moved to the country when he purchased the Stines Corner Country Store, Restaurant and Hotel, which he ran for 25 years with his wife, Aileen, with whom he was married for 45 years until her death in 1991.
Together, they proudly raised seven children.
As a card-carrying member of the "Greatest Generation" he will be missed and remains a model for us all.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter-in-law Sallie McKenney; daughters Ann, wife of Michael Schnur, Patty Jo, wife of Jack Kime, Lu, wife of Charles Petrie, Jane McKenney Durant and Constance McKenney, wife of Scott Dietrich; 15 grandchildren Michael, Steven and Jessica Schnur and families Rebecca, Jeremy and Katie Kime; and families Jason, Rob and Christopher Petrie; and families Anjelica Kostenbader and Dominique McKenney; and Theresa, Taylor, Isabel and Gwendolan Dietrich, seven great-grandchildren Michael, Jakob, Madison, Jordan, Joshua, Owen and Finnegan.
He was predeceased by sons Peter and Robert Jr.
