EMMAUS HIGH SCHOOL Bomb scare closes school again

For the third time in the 2012-2013 school year, Emmaus High School has received a bomb threat.

For that reason, Emmaus High School was closed March 6 for a sweep of the building to ensure students' safety.

The threat was received March 5.

The first bomb threat was received Dec. 22, 2012 and school was closed Dec. 23, 2012 for a sweep of the building.

Superintendent Thomas Seidenberger said "this was particularly egregious because of its proximity to Sandy Hook [Dec. 14, 2012]."

The second threat was received Feb. 21; however, school was not closed.

Following the latest threat, school was reopened March 8 with a message to students from Principal David Piperato.

Piperator's message was for students to "pull together and work as a cohesive team to create a safe environment."

Moving foward, lavatories in the high school will be supervised and students will sign out of class to use the facilities which will be monitored. Seidenberger said the goal is to limit students floating around the building.

Seidenberger also said there will be more of an adult presence in the hallways of the school.

Students will be required to make up the days missed due to the bomb threat closures and graduation could be impacted.

As it is an ongoing police investigation, the district is asking parents to contact police or the district if they have any information surrounding threats to the school.

On March 8, Seidenberger said the school day was "quiet and very orderly. Students were very cooperative."

"Ten to 15 years ago, this stuff was a joke, but lately, with all the tragedy around our country, it just isn't a joke anymore," Seidenberger said. "We know this is an inconvenience for everyone, but at the end of the day we would rather have people inconvenienced and safe than just blow something like this off."
